I have been adding surprise bags to my booths for years. These are fun things to have around and you change them out by the season. They are usually inexpensive to make which is a plus. This is also a creative way to get rid of unwanted smalls. Most customers love a good surprise. I have put things like old ephemera, card decks, thimbles, sewing notions, paperback books, to knick-knacks. My surprise bags have usually been in the $5 range. If the bag is larger I would do $10.
Valentine’s theme surprise bags have always been a big hit for me. I usually fill them with some candy, old vintage valentine cards, and one or two small treasures. These are very easy to make. All you need are the following supplies:
Brown Lunch Bags, Heart Dollies, and a cute label to let the customer know it’s a surprise bag. I found the heart dollies and brown paper bags at Dollar Tree. I made the labels myself. These are available in my Etsy shop if you would like to purchase. I just turned the hearts upside down and stapled them to the top of the bag.
This is a very simple vignette to create. If you have a vintage suitcase lying around grab it. This will be the foundation for your vignette. If you don’t have one, grab a large tray or crate or something along those lines.
I taped some heart dollies to the back and then embellished with these two vintage photos. These photos are freebies. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to snag them.
Next, I added my surprise bags to the suitcase. Then I grabbed some milk glass vases and stuck these heart picks and mini flags down inside. I found the red heart picks at Dollar Tree.
